The Mental Edge
Muscles are slaves to the brain. Therefore, it is important to first prepare the mind to be strong and then the body will follow.
The term Deep Impact has been derived from two principles, which when understood, bring genuine substance to the psyche of the athlete. Get ready to DIG DEEP AND MAKE AN IMPACT.
DIG DEEP
The "deep" in Deep Impact Performance Training signifies a magnificent revelation and key to success, derived from the Holy Bible. In a parable to His disciples, Jesus told of the difference between a wise and a foolish man, each desiring to build a house: "Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it." Matthew 7:24-27
In athletics, the rain, floods and winds represent adversity, opposition and resistance. This comes in various forms, such as tougher competition from athletes who have prepared properly and are hungry for victory, from a previous injury, or from any seemingly unconquerable obstacle hindering the path to glory. When adversity comes, the foolish builder, void of a good foundation such as planning, preparation and a support base, falls under the pressure.
It is our belief that the athlete who, first digs deep and builds upon solid fundamentals and principles, preparing long before adversity comes, will endure the toughest of competition and come out on top with head held high.
Our bodies are temples..., houses built upon, and filled with not only what we believe, but with what we do...
To dig deep is to look inward, determine whether one has what it takes to conquer, plant the necessary seeds, and then make a sound decision to do whatever it takes to bring out the potential. The greatest athletes are made from the inside - out.
True Case
It’s 92 ° outside at 1pm, and no wind is blowing. You’re at the track, on your 4th 200 meter sprint with 2 minutes rest in between, and you have four more to go. Your friends are at the beach right now, and your body is screaming "take it easy, the coach won’t know, you could be at the beach with your friends, what’s the use, you’re too tired." This is a crucial moment where you can succumb to the temporary pain and temptation to quit. The pain will surely go away, along with the voices. Or you can remind your body of the goal, dig deep, push it a little bit harder and finish strong. These are foundation building moments that come only when you get to this point. Few ever work to get to this point. Even fewer make the right choice when they do. These select few, the elite, have a special name.

MAKE AN IMPACT
Impact - n. the force of impression or operation of one thing on another: Effect - v. to impinge upon.
The Impact Player is the one who makes a difference. This player is not satisfied with mere participation, but desires and moves toward domination. An impact player is one to be reckoned with; a far greater asset to the team and threat to the opponent, than the mediocre player. Crowds come, coaches strategize, and opponents lose sleep. After the game, this player always leaves an impression, and win or lose, both teams know that they’ve been in a war. This player’s intensity and passion is so focused, that it becomes infectious and every one around improves, just from their residue. While some athletes settle with participation, the attitude of the impact player is to leave his or her mark. That is to say, "This is my territory, take it if you can!"
